A Little Helm History
...how did they come to settle in Highland Falls?
Once upon a time after WWII ended, a handsome young U.S. Army soldier from Jamestown, KY found himself stationed at the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY.
In the small village of Highland Falls, NY, next to West Point, there lived with her family a young and beautiful Italian lady.
The soldier was my father, Morris B. Helm. The lady, my mother, Leda Kathryn Graziano.
Through fate and fortune they met. Dad often said for him it was love at first sight. After a whirlwind courtship, they were married on September 14, 1946 in the Graziano family home at 23 Center Street in Highland Falls with Sam (one of Mom's brothers) and Betty Graziano as witnesses.
Dad liked to joke that I was born 9 months and 15 minutes after they married.
The rest is history...
